End of the 3rd quarter
As we approach the end of the 3rd quarter we will take the common assessment for Chapter 6. We spent a great deal of time on the ideas of Darwin including natural selection, adaptations and the factors that influence populations. The test will be given on Friday but with the number of students out for performances this week and for those that are leaving early for spring break it is doubtful that the exam score will be applied to 3rd quarter grades. If at any time parents would like a printout, send an email and I will provide one to your student and reply to your email that it has been delivered. Have a relaxing spring break!
Common Assessment Chapter 5
Students will take the Chapter 5 common assessment on Friday 2/5. I will collect their current packet as well. It should contain their lecture notes and the openers from this unit. They may want to look at the sample exam at the end of the chapter (Pages 179-180).
Final Exam on Thursday 12/17
The Science final exam will be given on Thursday 12/17. It is a cumulative exam over all information covered in the first semester. The test will account for no less than 5% of the students overall semester grade.
Packet 3 Due Friday/Exam Ch. 2
On Friday 11/13, packet #3 will be collected. The packets should include the chapter 2 lecture notes (including the cancer information on the last 4 slides of the cell cycle powerpoint), the 2-sided study guide, and the 5 openers done in class. The exam will be over the information covered in the current unit. It is always a good idea to review the vocabulary and your notes prior to the exam. Good Luck.
Ch. 2 Vocab Quiz
Students will take a matching vocabulary quiz from the terms covered in Chapter 2 on Wednesday 11/4. They should be familiar with the terms including fermentation, active transport, osmosis, diffusion, passive transport etc. The students will have a word bank to use for the quiz.
Unit 2 Exam (Packets Due) 10/21
On Wednesday 10/21 students will take an exam over the information covered in Unit 2 (Chapter 1). The packets will be collected on Wednesday as well. Included in the packet students should have 2 study guides, the lecture notes (posted in class and on this website) and the openers listed on the front board. It would be a good idea to review the notes, vocabulary, and parts of the microscope.
Microscope Quiz
Students were given an assignment to complete that included parts and functions of a microscope. They will be given a quiz on Friday 10/16 over that information. If they completed the microscope handout, it may be used as a study guide. If they didn't do or lost the handout, they should review the information found in the text on page R-14. Good Luck!
Cell Parts Quiz
We are currently studying the anatomy and physiology (structure and function) of cells. We have done some in class activities dealing with the cell and it's parts. Students will take a matching quiz over the parts and what they do on Tuesday 10/13. They were also assigned to read Chapter 1 Section 3 (Pages 26-32). We will begin the discussion of this information following the quiz.
Vocab Quiz on 10/1
Students will be given a matching quiz on Thursday 10/1 over the terminology in Chapter 1. Terms are from the lecture notes and the definitions that the students defined on Monday. Be sure to review concepts from the notes such as autotroph, spontaneous generation, stumulus etc. Flash cards work well as a review by putting the term on one side and the definition on the other. Flip through the cards until you know the definition just from looking at the term. Good Luck!
Unit 1 Exam Friday 9/18
Our first unit exam will be given on Friday 9/18. Packet #1 is also due on the same day. The packet should include lecture notes taken in class and the openers given during this first unit. There is a list of all the openers on the front board that includes the dates the openers were given and the point value for each. On this website under class files students should find the powerpoint for the information as well as a review for the exam. If students were absent any time during the first unit they should check the openers that they have against the list on the board and the notes that they have compared to those on the powerpoint. Good luck!
Success in Science
We will start off the year with a review of science terms, measurements and the scientific method. All assignments carry a point value and add to overall point totals. Missed assignments may be made up during tutorial for partial credit. It is best to do the work when assigned to insure the best grade in the class. We will also do periodic openers that will be collected at the end of each unit. This will all be explained in class. If your not sure what to do please inquire before losing valuable points.
